New year and new releases! I know that many are excited about Caraval by Stephanie Garber and the Carve the Mark by Veronica Roth, but although the current reviews for the books are good, I have not found much interest in the descriptions of them. So after I did a careful examination of the upcoming books this month, I have compiled my top 5 most anticipated releases of January 2017.
Jeff Giles – The Edge of Everything
Seventeen year old Zoe is still recovering from the sudden death of her father and disappearance of her neighbour, when she and her brother are attacked. They are rescued by a mysterious bounty hunter called X, who is sent from hell called Lowlands to collect Zoe’s soul.
I think that the main reason I am at all interested in this book is the fact that I recently went to the play ‘Screwtape Letters’ and this mysterious X from hell made me interested in seeing, what exactly the book can offer. I don’t think that it would have made my list if it wouldn’t be for that!
Adam Blake serves as an aide to his school’s psychologist and although he has ADHD, he still feels like his position is pretty comfortable… Until the doctor asks to track down a troubled freshman who has been avoiding psychologist’s office. Soon Adam discovers that the boy is actually Julian, Adam’s foster brother who he hasn’t seen for five years.
I’m not entirely sure I understand what this book is about (it’s obviously taking place in America), but it seems to not only unravel the mysteries of the two boys, but also offer deeper meanings and insights.
Jessica Sorensen – Cursed (Cursed Superheroes #1)
On the night when ordinary Remi turns eighteen years old, she finds out that her bloodline is a source of paranormal skills. She discovers that she isn’t just an ordinary person, she is dark and deadly – Remi has reaper powers. She struggles daily to not steal souls and keep to what she believes in, but the temptation is huge…
I partially think that this book sounds a tiny bit stupid, but I like the idea of having powers that the person actually doesn’t want. In addition, these are in a sense evil, bad powers, which makes it even more interesting.
Marissa Meyer – Wires and Nerve: Volume 1
This is a story about Iko an android that was discarded as faulty because it can override the programming and make her own decisions. It is a graphic novel from the Lunar Chronicles series universe featuring Cinder’s best friend and other characters featured in the original series.
I really liked the novella Marissa Meyer wrote about an android, so I am very excited about this graphic novel. It also makes me feel like she is turning more into the direction of writing original stories and not just re-tellings – and that is even better.
J.P. Delany – The Girl Before
After a traumatic break-in Emma never feels safe, she searches for new apartments, but cannot afford anything that could provide the safety she wants. Until she finds an offer from an architect – the perfect place for her needs – but it comes with a rule that she can’t change anything about it, because it’s made to change her.
Jane needs a fresh start after a personal tragedy, she moves into the house of the architect and learns about the untimely death of the previous occupant – a woman similar to Jane. Jane tries to untangle her mysterious death by making the same decisions and encountering the same horrifying truths.
I am really, really excited about this one, it sounds mysterious and unpredictable and hopefully will be an amazing read!
So these are my most anticipated books of the month of January. To be honest, I had more of ‘ok, could read that’ occurrences than ‘must-have-this-now’ type of things this month, so it is not overly exciting, but the first two places are definitely one’s I will be looking forward to. Let me know what are your most anticipated books of this month! Cheerio!

I’ve seen A List of Cages floating around the book block recently, but hadn’t taken the time to actually read the description; I’ve got to admit, having read it NOW…I’m officially intrigued and will be keeping my eye on it more closely!
This is a great list of books soon-to-be! I’ve seen most of these around, but not the one from Jessica Sorenson–that blurb has me hooked as well. I might be keeping my eye out for that one too, maybe.
Either way, here’s hoping you enjoy any and all new releases you happen to pick up in the next few months! Happy book-ing to you!

I am beyond excited for Wires and Nerve. I will jump at any chance I get to check in with some of my favourite characters and the fact that it’s a graphic novel is a bonus.
I’m intrigued by A List of Cages. I wouldn’t know what to expect from the book but it looks interesting and I like the covers so I’ll give it a shot. 😀

The Girl Before looks really good. Unfortunately I don’t do well with mystery and suspense. I will have to wait for your review.

These all look intriguing, especially “The Girl Before”.
I am reading some research books this month, so no fiction for me for a while. I am currently reading “A Train in Winter” by Caroline Moorehead, which contains some of the most graphic descriptions of life inside Auschwitz. It’s an incredible story of friendship, but it’s a grim, grim read.
Looks like you have some thought-provoking reading ahead in January. I hope all these books exceed your expectations. 🙂

Are you writing a paper or it is sheer interest that brings you to historical books?

One is a book club choice, one is for blog research and the third came highly recommend by a friend that needs to go back to the library. (Books are my weakness!)

Hi, I mostly follow the publishers, get their newsletters etc. Then I have a large circle of blogs I follow, where I can see some books that I might have missed. And also sometimes you can just google for book releases in months and find lists (though usually you will need to combine them and experiment, so you could find books that actually interest you).
Hope that helps! 🙂
